Wrapped Up for Winter?

This is Lucy. She is cold. She plans to spend the winter months just like this. Do you?
Winter is upon us. And with it, many of us are having to bundle up to keep warm. However, if you are bundling up to stay warm inside your house….well, that’s a problem. You shouldn’t be suffering in an attempt to stay warm in your own home. And, contrary to popular belief, making those cold rooms warmer is NOT as easy as adding insulation. Insulation does a great job in slowing down the air leaving your home and going to the outside, but it doesn’t stop it.
The only way to stop the warm air from leaving your home is to have your home air sealed. Air sealing is not a new concept for those of us in the Home Comfort industry, but it is still a relatively new idea to most people. Air sealing should be completed before insulation is installed. This is good news if you are building your home, but what if you’re not building? Although it takes a little more work, it is still do-able. The difference is this: your existing insulation will need to be extracted first. That’s no big deal. And the results of having your home air sealed and properly insulated will be worth the money AND will pay for itself through energy savings fairly quickly.
