Let’s Talk About Air Sealing: Part 2
Tuesday, May 9th, 2017 by Joy Padgett
So, yesterday we talked about air sealing and the areas in the home or business that probably need to be air sealed. But that leads us to this question…”Why is air sealing is such a big deal?”
Air sealing is a big deal because the underlying issue, which is air leakage, has a BIG impact on how our home or business building performs and how comfortable we are in those locations.
Air leakage is a common problem in most homes and businesses alike. Air leakage causes some rooms to be hotter or colder than the other rooms in the home/building, which means you are not comfortable in your home/building.
Air leakage causes a rise in heating and cooling costs, too. That means you are spending more money than you should be and your home or building is NOT performing as it should.
Many air leaks and drafts – like those around windows and doors – are easy to find. But holes hidden in attics, basements, and crawlspaces are much harder to locate and usually cause bigger problems. Due to pressure differences caused by stack effect, the holes in the attic are usually the most important ones to seal.
