Are Your Walls Insulated?
Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 by Joy Padgett
I don’t know about you, but I love homes! Big ones, small ones, plain ones, fancy ones, old ones or new ones, it doesn’t matter to me. I love them all! BUT, what I don’t like are uncomfortable homes! Why in the world are you paying a mortgage for something that isn’t keeping you comfortable? Maybe it’s just one room that isn’t staying at your desired temperature. Did you know that it should be? I’d like to tell you about something you might not know about your house.
Did you know that nearly every home built before 1980 doesn’t have insulation in the walls? There are thousands of houses in Central Kentucky that were built before 1980. If you own one of these houses and are experiencing cold rooms in the colder months and hot rooms in the hotter months, you would benefit from having one of our expert Home Comfort Specialists pay you a visit! After all, don’t you think you deserve to be comfortable in your own home? We do!
Now, for those of you who have newer houses (and by that I mean post-1980) this doesn’t mean your house has wall insulation. It just means it might have it….but, then again, it might not. Do you know? If you don’t know, then you should.
Wall insulation is an important factor in helping your home maintain the temperature you want it to maintain. If your walls don’t have insulation, then they are simply hollow spaces allowing air to move inside them. This is cold air during the winter and hot air during the summer. This air not only moves up and down your walls, but will also leak out into your house through gaps and cracks….not to mention it can cool down or warm up your drywall.
Having wall insulation added to your home will help your home be more comfortable by creating a barrier to slow down the transfer of cold air (or hot air depending on the season) into your home. You may even notice that you can set your thermostat a little lower in the winter and higher in the summer because now, your house is able to keep the conditioned air inside! We have had dozens of customers call us within a couple of hours of completing their wall insulation job to tell us they had to turn their temperature down (in winter months) for the first time in years!! It was all thanks to the newly installed wall insulation.
There are different methods for installing wall insulation and ALL of them require us to pay a visit to your house and take a look around. We don’t believe in guessing what it would take to insulate your walls. We respect you too much to risk giving you false information. That’s why we want to look at and evaluate your home. PLUS, there are situations where wall insulation cannot be done. We wouldn’t dream of pricing something we can’t actually do.
At Weatherization Plus, our specially trained Home Comfort Technicians canevaluate your home for wall insulation and install it in your existing home if nothing prevent this type of work from being done. Many of our customers have called a month or two after we have insulated their walls to tell us how much they saved on their energy bills! That is an added bonus! Don’t delay!
